The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Sunday claimed that the body of its panchayat member, Sahadeb Bag, was found in West Bengal's Hooghly district. Sharing a picture of a blood-splattered body on its social media handle, the party alleged that Bag, a member of the Nokunda gram panchayat under Goghat 1 block, was killed by political rivals.
Incident Details
According to the TMC, Bag's body was discovered early in the morning near a local pond in the Goghat area. The party accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of being behind the murder, citing ongoing political tensions in the region. The TMC leadership demanded a thorough investigation and swift action against the perpetrators.
BJP's Response
The BJP vehemently denied any involvement in the incident. Party spokespersons termed the allegations as baseless and an attempt to divert attention from the TMC's internal conflicts. They challenged the TMC to provide concrete evidence linking the BJP to the crime.
Local police have registered a case and initiated an inquiry. The body has been sent for post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. Security has been tightened in the area to prevent any further escalation of violence.
Political analysts view this as a flashpoint in the already volatile political landscape of West Bengal, where clashes between the TMC and BJP have been frequent. The incident is likely to intensify the war of words between the two parties ahead of the upcoming local body elections.
