A 49-year-old temporary worker with the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) was electrocuted on Tuesday while repairing a power line on the Valayankulam national highway in Madurai. The deceased has been identified as Kandhasamy, who had been working as a temporary employee with TNEB under the Perungudi section for over 25 years.
Incident Details
On May 5, Kandhasamy was repairing a fault on an electric pole located near a private steel company. He had switched off the transformer before beginning the repair work. However, he was electrocuted and died on the spot. Upon receiving information, police rushed to the scene and sent the body to Government Rajaji Hospital for autopsy.
Case Registered Against TNEB Employees
Based on a complaint filed by the victim's wife, Selvi, the Perungudi police registered a case against four TNEB employees: Krishnan, Kandhavel, Mullaisamy, and Balamurugan. Preliminary investigations revealed that Kandhasamy had indeed switched off the transformer before starting his work. The police are now investigating how the electricity was turned back on, leading to the electrocution. They suspect that the TNEB employees may have accidentally switched on the transformer while Kandhasamy was working.
Interrogation of the suspects is currently underway. The police are also examining the possibility of negligence or foul play. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
