Agra: Two cousin sisters, Sahiba (5) and Neha (6), were found dead in a septic tank in Nagla Kanchan village under Aunchha police station limits in Mainpuri district, officials said on Friday. Police suspect that the girls fell into the tank while playing.
Incident Details
Family members reported that the girls went missing around 10:30 am on Thursday. Despite a thorough search by relatives and villagers in nearby fields, houses, and surrounding areas, they could not be traced. Their bodies were discovered around 3 pm when villagers checked an uncovered septic tank at the house of Zakir Hussain, Neha's father and brother of Sahiba's father, Imtiyaz Ali. Both men are farmers.
Septic Tank Condition
The tank had been built approximately two years ago and was temporarily covered with bricks. The lack of a secure cover is believed to have contributed to the tragic incident.
Police Response
Aunchha SHO Chandrapal Singh stated that the families refused to hand over the bodies for post-mortem and did not file a police complaint. SP (Rural) Abhishek Tiwari confirmed that senior police and revenue officials inspected the site after receiving information. “Legal proceedings will be carried out in accordance with the wishes of the family and the available evidence,” he said.
This tragic event has shocked the local community, highlighting the dangers of uncovered septic tanks in rural areas.
