In a brazen late-night incident in South Delhi, two men with extensive criminal records have been apprehended for allegedly robbing a victim of Rs 1.2 lakh and electronic goods after smashing his car's rear windscreen. The arrest sheds light on the daring modus operandi of the accused in the upscale Vasant Vihar area.
The Night of the Crime: A Sleeper Targeted
The robbery unfolded around 11 pm on Saturday near the Alkausar Restaurant on Palam Marg. According to police reports, the victim had parked his vehicle while his family went inside the restaurant. He remained in the car and eventually fell asleep. Seizing the opportunity, the accused arrived in another car and parked behind the victim's vehicle.
In a swift and aggressive move, one of the men allegedly smashed the car's rear windscreen. His accomplice then overpowered the startled victim, pushed him back inside the car, and snatched four bags containing cash and valuable electronic items before fleeing the scene.
Swift Police Action and Arrests
A Police Control Room (PCR) call was made immediately after the incident, leading to the registration of a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Vasant Vihar police station. A dedicated team led by DCP (Southwest) Amit Goel sprang into action.
"Acting on leads, the team conducted raids in Daya Basti, Inderlok and adjoining areas," stated DCP Goel. The investigation leveraged technical surveillance and tracking of the vehicle used in the crime, which ultimately led to the successful apprehension of the suspects.
Criminal Past and Recovery of Stolen Goods
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohd Nadeem and Ravinder. Investigations reveal a disturbing combined criminal history of 13 previous cases between them.
- Mohd Nadeem is reportedly involved in nine prior cases, including charges of robbery and attempted murder.
- Ravinder has four previous cases registered against him for theft, robbery, and violations under the Arms Act.
Following their arrest, the police achieved a significant recovery. They seized four stolen bags containing Rs 1.12 lakh in cash and the valuable electronic items. The car allegedly used by the duo to commit the crime has also been confiscated.
The case highlights the risks of leaving vehicles unattended in vulnerable states and showcases the Delhi Police's use of technical tools to track and nab seasoned criminals operating in the capital.
