In two separate incidents highlighting misconduct within the force, the Kerala Police have suspended two civil police officers (CPOs) in Ernakulam district for serious alleged offences, including links to a drug network and sexual misconduct.
Kalady Officer Suspended Over Drug Trafficking Links
A civil police officer attached to the Kalady police station has been suspended and faces a detailed departmental investigation for allegedly abetting drug trafficking. The action against officer Subeer A S followed an inquiry triggered by a narcotics seizure in September.
The Excise Department conducted a raid at a house in the Bengali Colony area of Perumbavoor, which belonged to a relative of the officer. During this operation, officials confiscated 66 grams of heroin, with an estimated street value of around Rs 9 lakh, along with a sum of cash.
Subsequent investigations revealed suspected connections between the suspended officer and a drug trafficking network. Based on the preliminary findings of the departmental inquiry, authorities ordered his immediate suspension.
Ongoing Probe to Determine Extent of Involvement
A comprehensive departmental inquiry is now underway to ascertain the full scope of the officer's alleged involvement. This will guide further disciplinary action in line with service rules. "We are yet to ascertain the extent of his involvement in the case. Further investigation will be carried out in the coming days," stated a senior officer from the Ernakulam Rural Police.
Separate Case: Officer Suspended for Alleged Sexual Misconduct
In an unrelated and disturbing case, another CPO attached to the Palluruthy Kasaba police station has been suspended following allegations of sexual misconduct. The officer, identified as Vijesh, a native of Alappuzha, was assigned passport verification duties.
The incident unfolded on December 22, 2025, when Vijesh visited the residence of a 27-year-old woman from Panayappilly for verification. During the visit, he learned she lived separately from her husband.
Police reports indicate that Vijesh later contacted the woman, claiming there were issues with her verification that needed resolution. He asked her to meet him at BOT Park on Monday. According to the woman's complaint, at the meeting spot, he allegedly forced her into his car and molested her.
Case Registered, Accused Absconding
Following the woman's complaint, the Harbour police registered a case against Vijesh, leading to his suspension. Vijesh, who is married and has a child, is currently absconding. Police authorities have confirmed that active efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest him at the earliest.
These back-to-back incidents have put the spotlight on disciplinary mechanisms within the police department, prompting calls for stringent internal checks and accountability.
