Two women killed in truck container accident on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

A tragic accident on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Kota claimed the lives of two women on Wednesday morning. The fatal incident occurred when a container from a truck fell onto a taxi, crushing the vehicle's rear section.

Details of the Fatal Incident

The accident took place at approximately 8:30 AM on Wednesday near the toll plaza under the jurisdiction of the Chechat police station in Kota district. According to police, the container detached from a truck and landed directly on the back of a taxi traveling on the expressway.

The victims have been identified as Shivani Chouhan (42) and Sudha Rana (45). Shivani, wife of Kuldeep Singh Rana, was originally from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, but was currently residing in Australia. Sudha Rana was a resident of Noida. Both women were seated in the rear of the vehicle and died instantly due to the impact.

Family's Pilgrimage Ends in Tragedy

The group was returning to Dehradun after performing puja at the renowned Mahakal temple in Ujjain on Tuesday night. The taxi carried five occupants: the two deceased women, Kuldeep Singh Rana (Shivani's husband), his son Vardhman Singh, and the taxi driver, Arjun Singh.

Miraculously, the three male occupants – Kuldeep Singh, Vardhman Singh, and driver Arjun Singh – escaped the accident without any physical injuries. The force of the falling container primarily devastated the rear passenger compartment where the two women were seated.

Aftermath and Police Investigation

In the immediate aftermath of the collision, the driver of the truck allegedly fled the scene. However, the truck's cleaner was detained at the accident site by authorities. Jogendara, the duty officer at Chechat police station, confirmed these details.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections against the absconding container truck driver. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the container's detachment and the sequence of events leading to the tragedy.

The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their grieving family members after the completion of the post-mortem examination. The incident has once again raised serious concerns about road safety and cargo security on India's busy national expressways.
