Undertrial Marries Survivor in Berhampur Jail

A 25-year-old undertrial prisoner, accused of rape and lodged in Berhampur Circle Jail in Ganjam district, married the 25-year-old survivor on the prison premises on Sunday. The ceremony was held in the presence of relatives of both the bride and groom, along with dignitaries and jail officials.

Background of the Couple

Both the man and woman are qualified pharmacists and were in a romantic relationship. However, due to misunderstandings, the woman filed a complaint against the man, leading to his arrest and imprisonment in November last year. The marriage was solemnized after obtaining necessary permissions from the court and the Director General of Prisons, following all legal procedures.

Official Statement

“After getting permission from the court and Director General (Prisons) and following all legal aspects, we have coordinated their marriage function inside the jail premises,” said DN Barik, senior superintendent of the circle jail in Berhampur.
