Police Conduct Raids Across Multiple Locations
Uttar Pradesh Police on Tuesday conducted raids at the residences of eight individuals implicated in the theft of donations from the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The accused include Tinnu Yadav, a key suspect in the case. The coordinated operation covered several districts, with police teams seizing cash, documents, and other incriminating evidence.
According to officials, the raids were carried out based on specific inputs gathered during the investigation. The stolen amount is estimated to be around ₹2.5 lakh, but authorities believe the actual figure could be higher as further accounting is underway.
Details of the Theft and Investigation
The theft came to light earlier this month when temple authorities noticed a discrepancy in the donation records. A complaint was lodged at the Ayodhya police station, leading to the registration of a case against unidentified persons. Subsequently, the police formed a special investigation team that traced the involvement of Tinnu Yadav and seven others.
“We have recovered some cash and documents that point to a larger conspiracy,” said a senior police officer involved in the operation. “The accused are being interrogated to determine the exact amount stolen and whether any temple staff were complicit.”
Seizures and Further Action
During the raids, police recovered ₹1.2 lakh in cash, along with mobile phones, SIM cards, and handwritten notes that appear to detail the distribution of stolen funds. The homes of the accused were thoroughly searched under the supervision of magistrates.
Tinnu Yadav, a local resident with a prior criminal record, is believed to be the mastermind. Police have arrested four of the eight accused so far, while efforts are on to nab the remaining four. “We are confident of solving the case soon,” the officer added.
Impact on Temple Security
The incident has raised concerns about security at the Ram Temple, which attracts millions of devotees and collects substantial donations daily. Temple trust members have called for stricter monitoring and the installation of CCTV cameras in donation areas.
“We have full faith in the police, but such incidents cannot be allowed to recur,” said a temple spokesperson. The trust is also considering digital payment options to minimize cash handling.
