Weighing Scale Clue Leads Nagpur Police to Bust Drug Operation, Seize MD Powder Worth Rs6 Lakh
Weighing Scale Leads Nagpur Police to Drug Bust, Seize MD Powder

A weighing scale proved to be the crucial clue that led Kapil Nagar police to bust a drug operation, as officers grew suspicious after spotting a man carrying it near Kabir Nagar Chowk in the early hours of Thursday.

Initial Detention and Interrogation

Senior inspector Satish Ade and inspector Shahzad Shaikh detained the individual, identified as 25-year-old Tulshiram Thakur, a resident of Samta Nagar under Jaripatka police station limits. During sustained interrogation, Thakur confessed that the weighing scale was intended for measuring MD (methamphetamine) powder. He subsequently led police to a stash, resulting in the seizure of 121 grams of MD powder worth over Rs6 lakh.

Operation Thunder: Anti-Narcotics Drive

The action forms part of commissioner of police Ravinder Singal's ongoing anti-narcotics drive, ‘Operation Thunder'. Thakur revealed that he had sourced the drugs from an associate, Gaurav Nandagavali, also a resident of Samta Nagar, for distribution in the city. A prompt follow-up raid led to Nandagavali's arrest the same night.

Police sources said Thakur was not a known figure in the narcotics trade but was caught due to the suspicious nature of his movements. The presence of the weighing scale alerted officers, enabling them to act before the drugs could be distributed.

Supervision and Seized Items

The operation is being supervised by Zonal DCP Sandeep Pakhale and ACP Satyaveer Bandiwar. Apart from the MD powder, police seized a motorcycle (MH-49-BN-7750) worth Rs50,000, a mobile phone worth Rs15,000, Rs3,700 in cash, and zip-lock plastic packets. The total value of the seized items stands at approximately Rs6.77 lakh.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation

A case has been registered at Kapil Nagar police station. Both accused have been arrested after their families were informed. Further investigation is underway to trace the wider supply network. Stay updated with the latest Nagpur news.
