A shocking incident of alleged attempted murder has come to light in Chennai, where a young woman was pushed off the rooftop of her house after she repeatedly rejected a man's marriage proposal. The victim, identified as Sharmila, is currently fighting for her life in the intensive care unit of a private hospital.
Stalking and a Drunken Assault
The terrifying episode unfolded on Sunday night in the Nerkundram area near Maduravoyal. According to police, the accused, 25-year-old Silambarasan, a native of Ariyalur, had been stalking the victim for several months. Sharmila, a second-year B.Com student and resident of Nerkundram, had made it clear she was not interested in his advances. However, Silambarasan continued to harass her.
On the fateful night, while Sharmila was on the terrace of her home, the accused, who was in an inebriated state, managed to climb onto the terrace from a neighbouring building. In a brutal act, he then pushed her off the roof with the clear intent to kill her.
Serious Injuries and Swift Arrest
The fall caused devastating injuries to the young woman. She suffered a hip fracture and multiple other injuries and had to be rushed to a private hospital for emergency treatment. Her condition remains serious as she undergoes care in the ICU.
Alert neighbours who witnessed the horrific act immediately intervened. They managed to catch Silambarasan and handed him over to the Koyambedu police. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter further.
