Woman Sold for Rs 3 Lakh Rescued from Rajasthan, Accused Held

A 21-year-old woman from the Barra area in Kanpur, who was reportedly sold for Rs 3 lakh, has been rescued from Sikar district in Rajasthan, police confirmed on Monday. The accused, who purchased the woman and subsequently married her, has been arrested.

Details of the Case

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Deependra Nath Chaudhary stated that the accused forcibly married the woman on April 30. Police teams have been actively searching for all individuals involved in the crime.

Mother's Complaint

The victim's mother reported to the police that her daughter worked in a factory. On April 21, the woman went to Khatu Shyam temple with her childhood friend and the friend's husband. When she failed to return for several days, the mother contacted the friend and her husband. Initially, they evaded her calls, claiming they would return soon. Later, the friend threatened the mother and revealed that her daughter had been sold for Rs 3 lakh. Subsequently, the victim's mobile phone was switched off, prompting the mother to file a complaint at Barra police station.

Investigation and Rescue

During the investigation, police traced the last known location of the friend to Rajasthan. On Sunday night, a team from Barra police station, accompanied by the victim's family members, left for Rajasthan. The police arrested the accused, a laborer and resident of Fatehpur Sadar in Sikar, and rescued the woman.

Police Statement

DCP South Deependra Nath Chaudhary said that the woman's friend and her husband had sold her after threatening to kill her. They took her to Rajasthan and sold her for Rs 3 lakh to the accused. Police also revealed that false documents were prepared under a different name to solemnize the marriage.

Legal Action

Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the crime. The rescued woman has been reunited with her family.
