In a shocking incident from Rajasthan, police in Churu have made an arrest in connection with the murder of a 25-year-old man, whose body was discovered near a national highway. The accused is the victim's own younger brother.
Brother Confesses to Premeditated Killing
Churu Superintendent of Police Jai Yadav provided details of the grim case. The victim has been identified as Vikas Meghwal, a 25-year-old resident of Jhunjhunu district. His body was found this past Sunday near National Highway-52, close to Ratan Nagar in Churu.
The investigation led police to arrest 20-year-old Ankit Meghwal, the younger brother of the deceased. According to the SP, Ankit confessed to the crime during interrogation. The motive appears to be rooted in family burden, as Vikas was mentally unwell. After their father's death, Ankit allegedly wanted to be rid of the responsibility of caring for his brother, especially since their mother is also disabled.
Detailed Sequence of the Crime
The police reconstruction of the event reveals a premeditated act. Ankit first made his elder brother consume alcohol. Subsequently, with the assistance of a minor, he transported Vikas on a motorcycle to the isolated spot near NH-52.
At the crime scene, he once again gave Vikas alcohol before proceeding to strangle him to death using a rope. The involvement of the minor is under active investigation by the police to determine the exact extent of their role in the homicide.
Massive Police Investigation Cracks the Case
The breakthrough in the case came from diligent police work. After the body was discovered on Sunday, three dedicated police teams were formed to investigate the murder. In a significant effort, officers scoured footage from approximately 200 CCTV cameras in the area to gather clues and trace movements.
This digital evidence eventually led investigators to suspect the younger brother. When confronted and interrogated by the police, Ankit Meghwal broke down and confessed to murdering his elder sibling. The arrest was subsequently made on Wednesday.
The case has sent ripples through the local community, highlighting a tragic fracture within a family already dealing with significant challenges. The Churu police continue their probe, particularly focusing on the minor's involvement, as they prepare a chargesheet for the court.
