Fatal Crash on Mumbai-Vadodara Highway

Two people were killed and another seriously injured after a speeding BMW collided with a road divider and overturned multiple times on the Mumbai-Vadodara highway near Badlapur in Thane district early Sunday, police said. The accident occurred around 4 am as the luxury car was returning from Titwala.

Victims Identified

The deceased were Yogesh Dighe (26) and Rikeba Jacob (24), both residents of Badlapur. A third occupant, identified only as Anand, sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment at a private hospital in Thane, according to an official.

Preliminary Investigation

Preliminary investigations indicate the car was being driven at high speed when it hit the road divider, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle overturned several times before coming to a halt, leaving it mangled. Residents and motorists rushed to the scene after hearing a loud noise and alerted authorities.

Police and Forensic Response

The bodies of the two victims were sent to a government hospital for post-mortem. A case of accidental death has been registered, and further investigation is underway, said the station house officer of Badlapur police station. A forensic team visited the site and collected evidence. Police are examining all aspects, including whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
