A tragic road accident in the Bharmour subdivision of Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh, claimed four lives and left one person seriously injured on Saturday. The incident occurred when a car carrying five occupants skidded off a mountain road and plunged nearly 200 metres into a deep gorge near Sarni Bridge on the Urei-Samra-Runhkothi link road.
Details of the Accident
According to police reports, the vehicle went out of control while negotiating a sharp bend, causing it to roll into a deep nullah. Three of the occupants died on the spot, while a fourth woman succumbed to her injuries while being transported to Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College in Chamba.
The deceased have been identified as Chatro Devi (70), Basehro Devi (72), and Lata Devi (43), all residents of Urei village, and the driver Ravikant (32), a resident of Runhkothi village in Bharmour. The lone survivor, Rakesh Kumar (35), also a resident of Runhkothi, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at Chamba medical college.
Cause and Response
The group was travelling to attend a religious function in the Samra-Runhkothi area when the accident took place. A police team from Bharmour police station promptly reached the spot after receiving information and, with the assistance of local residents, retrieved the bodies from the gorge. The investigation into the exact cause of the accident is ongoing.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the dangers of mountainous roads in the region. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, especially on narrow and winding link roads. The injured survivor's condition is reported to be stable, and he remains under medical observation.
