Arunachal Floods: 4 Missing, 54 Houses Damaged

Four people remain untraceable as the NEEPCO colony in flood-hit Arunachal Pradesh stays completely cut off, according to the preliminary assessment conducted by the state's Disaster Management Department. The assessment, released on 26 June 2026, revealed that 54 houses were damaged in the floods, with 30 of them completely destroyed.

Rescue operations hampered by inaccessible terrain

The NEEPCO colony, located in a remote area, has been isolated due to damaged roads and bridges. Rescue teams are struggling to reach the affected residents, and communication lines remain down. The Disaster Management Department is coordinating with the Army and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to establish alternative access routes.

Extent of damage and displacement

According to the official preliminary assessment, the floods have caused widespread destruction across multiple districts. Apart from the 30 fully destroyed houses, 24 others have suffered partial damage. Hundreds of families have been displaced and are taking shelter in relief camps set up by the state government. Authorities have also reported damage to crops and livestock, adding to the economic distress of the affected communities.

Government response and relief efforts

The Arunachal Pradesh government has deployed additional relief teams and is airlifting essential supplies to the worst-hit areas. Chief Minister Pema Khandu has assured full support and announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the missing persons. The Disaster Management Department is conducting a detailed survey to assess the full extent of the damage and plan long-term rehabilitation.

Local authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols as the flood situation evolves. The search for the four missing individuals is ongoing, with rescue teams using boats and helicopters to navigate the flooded terrain.
