BJP Commences Deendayal Upadhyay Training Programme in Uttar Pradesh
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) officially launched the party-centric Deendayal Upadhyay Training Programme in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday. This strategic initiative aims to refocus attention on the saffron party's efforts to groom new cadre members while simultaneously resetting the roles of veteran leaders in preparation for the impending election cycles in UP and other regions.
Training Structure and Objectives
Viewed as a preparatory exercise for the Uttar Pradesh elections scheduled next year, the programme features specialized training modules designed for party workers across various tiers. The training will commence at the state level, proceed to district levels, and eventually extend to mandals at the Assembly constituency level. According to insider sources, the curriculum is crafted to equip workers with political strategies to effectively challenge the Samajwadi Party and the Congress.
The training schedule is structured as follows:
- State-level sessions will be conducted over three days.
- District-level training will span two days.
- Mandal-level programmes will last for one day.
- Booth-level classes will be organized in two separate sessions.
Leadership and Oversight
At the national level, the training will be supervised by BJP national secretary Om Prakash Dhankhar. Meanwhile, state general secretaries Amar Pal Mauryra and Anup Gupta will monitor the exercises at the state level. Dhankhar characterized the programme as a continuous refinement process, emphasizing that individual development directly contributes to organizational strength. He described the campaign as a significant stride towards organizational empowerment, aimed at enriching party workers ideologically, behaviorally, and in leadership capacities.
Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhary stated that the training's primary goal is to fortify party workers ideologically, instill discipline, and reinforce their commitment to public service. Sources indicate that workers have been instructed to amplify the party's "all-inclusive" narrative to counteract the opposition's PDA (Picchda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) narrative, which impacted the BJP's performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Strategic Countermeasures and Ideological Focus
A senior BJP functionary involved in the programme revealed that the party will primarily leverage a Hindu social coalition to transcend caste divisions. This approach is intended to address vulnerabilities exposed during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where certain non-OBC and some Dalit groups distanced themselves from the BJP.
Analysts note that the BJP's response to the PDA narrative—by promoting an "all-inclusive" development platform—seeks to shift political discourse from caste-based calculations to welfare delivery and nationalism. The programme's naming after Deendayal Upadhyay, a key party ideologue, carries symbolic weight, as the BJP has consistently portrayed him as an advocate of "integral humanism," stressing social harmony, national progress, and the upliftment of the marginalized.
Grassroots Mobilization and Messaging
A senior BJP leader expressed the party's eagerness to reaffirm welfare-centric messaging and enhance booth-level mobilization at the grassroots. UP BJP spokesperson Hero Bajpai remarked that the programme boldly projects the BJP as a party driven by ideology rather than caste politics. Additionally, sources disclosed that workers will receive training to more aggressively promote the achievements of the Modi and Yogi governments in the coming days.
By highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the BJP intends to reinforce a leadership-centric campaign model, ensuring a cohesive and focused electoral strategy.
