BJP state chief BY Vijayendra takes Metro, urges austerity

Bengaluru: BJP state president BY Vijayendra travelled by Namma Metro on Saturday to attend party programmes, stating that he was following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for austerity amid global economic challenges and rising fuel prices.

Vijayendra on Public Transport

“At a time when the world is facing economic challenges, every citizen should think about this. He (PM) has given a call to switch to buses and public transport. As the state president of the party, it is my duty to follow his appeal,” Vijayendra said.

Reducing Convoy Vehicles

On PM Modi reducing convoy vehicles, Vijayendra said BJP’s national leadership was also practising austerity. “It is a good thought. We need to minimise the use of vehicles,” he added.

Congress Government Under Fire

Targeting the Congress government over fuel prices, Vijayendra accused it of repeatedly increasing levies on petrol and diesel. “Without any corresponding price rise at the Centre or global level, the Congress government in Karnataka increased fuel prices by imposing higher taxes,” he alleged.

Opposition Leader's Remarks

Opposition leader R Ashoka alleged that milk prices, electricity tariffs, bus fares, water charges, property tax and Metro fares had all increased under the Congress government.
