The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Punjab has accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led state government of violating constitutional safeguards by omitting reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in a recent lecturer recruitment notification.
BSP leader highlights omission in recruitment notice
Addressing a press conference in Jalandhar, Avtar Singh Karimpuri, BSP state president for Punjab, alleged that the AAP government has become a 'government of repression' against Dalits and backward classes. He claimed that the recruitment notification issued on June 25 for nearly 1,000 lecturer posts did not mention any reservation for SCs and OBCs. The posts were announced across multiple subjects, including Punjabi, chemistry, economics, commerce, physics, and geography.
Party announces protest action
Karimpuri warned that any attempt to dilute constitutional protections for marginalised communities would face strong opposition from the BSP. He announced that the party would hold district-level protests across Punjab on July 3. If the state government fails to reverse the decision and restore reservation, the BSP plans to intensify its agitation statewide in the coming days.
The BSP's allegations come amid ongoing tensions over reservation policies in the state, with the party accusing the AAP government of undermining the rights of SCs and OBCs.
