Congress workers in Gorakhpur staged a protest on Monday near Rani Lakshmi Bai Park at Town Hall, voicing their anger against the rising prices of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas, as well as the alleged NEET paper leak and subsequent cancellation of exams. The demonstration was jointly organized by the district and city units of the party following directives from Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Ajay Rai.
Unique protest method
In an unusual move to highlight inflation, party workers carried a motorcycle on a rickshaw through the city. District Congress committee president Rajesh Kumar Tiwari and metropolitan president led the procession, pulling the rickshaw themselves. This symbolic act was intended to draw attention to the soaring fuel prices that have burdened common citizens.
Allegations against the government
Tiwari alleged that inflation has reached alarming levels under the BJP government, making life difficult for the common people. He also claimed that youths are feeling insecure about their future due to the lack of transparent competitive examinations. The NEET paper leak, he said, reflects the government's failure in conducting fair exams.
Congress workers raised slogans against the central government and demanded immediate measures to control inflation and ensure transparency in competitive examinations. Many party leaders and workers participated in the protest, which was peaceful and orderly.
