CPI(ML)L rejects Congress charge in Jharkhand RS polls

The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, or CPI(ML)L, has strongly refuted the Congress party's allegations regarding cross-voting in the recently concluded Rajya Sabha elections in Jharkhand. In a sharply worded letter, CPI(ML)L General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya dismissed the claims as a 'malicious lie'.

Congress Blames CPI(ML)L for Defeat

The Congress party had earlier accused CPI(ML)L MLAs of cross-voting, which allegedly led to the defeat of its candidate, Pranav Jha, in the Rajya Sabha polls held on 18 June. The Congress leadership, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, had pointed fingers at the Left party for the unexpected outcome.

CPI(ML)L's Strong Rebuttal

In his letter to Kharge, Bhattacharya expressed shock at the allegations. 'We are shocked to see that the Congress is blaming our MLAs in Jharkhand for the defeat of Pranav Jha in the Rajya Sabha election from Jharkhand on 18 June. This is a malicious lie,' he wrote. The CPI(ML)L chief emphasized that his party's legislators voted as per the alliance's understanding and denied any deviation.

Political Fallout

The exchange of accusations has added strain to the already fragile opposition alliance in Jharkhand. The Congress and CPI(ML)L are part of the broader opposition coalition, and such internal bickering could weaken their unity ahead of future electoral battles. Political analysts note that the incident highlights the challenges of managing diverse coalition partners.

The CPI(ML)L has demanded an apology from the Congress for making baseless allegations. Meanwhile, the Congress has not yet officially responded to the letter, but party insiders suggest that the matter may be discussed internally to avoid further discord.
