Senior BJP leader Amit Shah on Saturday asserted that future historians would divide India's journey into two distinct phases — before and after 2014 — when the Narendra Modi government came to power at the Centre.
70 crore poor at the centre of welfare policies
Speaking at an event in Gujarat, Shah emphasised that the Modi government had kept 70 crore poor people at the centre of its welfare policies since assuming office in 2014. He said the government's schemes have transformed the lives of the underprivileged and brought them into the mainstream of development.
Shah credited the leadership of Prime Minister Modi for the paradigm shift in governance and policy-making, stating that the previous decades were marked by corruption and lack of direction.
Historians' perspective on India's transformation
The Home Minister predicted that future historians would recognise the year 2014 as a watershed moment in the country's history. “They will analyse India's journey in two parts — one before 2014 and one after 2014,” Shah said, adding that the transformation under Modi has been comprehensive and irreversible.
He cited various government initiatives such as the Jan Dhan Yojana, Ujjwala Yojana, and Ayushman Bharat as examples of how the poor have been empowered. According to Shah, these schemes have ensured that benefits reach the intended beneficiaries without leakage.
Attack on previous governments
Shah also launched a sharp attack on previous Congress-led governments, accusing them of neglecting the poor and engaging in vote-bank politics. He said the Modi government has worked for “sabka saath, sabka vikas” (cooperation with all, development for all), without any discrimination.
The senior BJP leader reiterated that the party remains committed to the welfare of the poor and will continue to work for their upliftment. He urged party workers to reach out to every household and inform them about the government's achievements.
