Girl, 8, killed in cement mixer crash in Mumbai's Sakinaka

An eight-year-old girl was killed in a road accident involving a cement mixer in Sakinaka, Mumbai, recently. The girl was riding pillion on her father's motorcycle when the cement mixer brushed against the two-wheeler, according to police.

Victim Details

The victim, identified as Aahana Shaikh, resided with her parents and two siblings in Powai. Four days before the incident, she had gone to stay at her aunt's residence in Sakinaka.

Incident Sequence

On May 15, Aahana's father, Mohammad Rafi, who works as an air conditioning mechanic, went to pick her up from her aunt's place on his motorcycle. While they were heading home after 5 pm, a cement mixer suddenly drove very close to them. The driver of the cement mixer swerved to the left. Mohammad Rafi applied the brakes, but the cement mixer brushed the two-wheeler. Due to the impact, Aahana was thrown to the right, while Mohammad Rafi fell to the left.

The cement mixer ran over Aahana. Mohammad Rafi cried for help, and passersby managed to stop the cement mixer's driver, later identified as Siraj-ul-Islam, who stepped down.

Medical Response and Legal Action

Aahana had suffered serious injuries and was bleeding profusely. Police were informed, and she was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The Sakinaka police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Siraj-ul-Islam for negligence and rash driving.
