Karnataka Minister D Sudhakar passed away at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He was 55. The veteran Congress leader and Chitradurga district in-charge minister had been battling health issues for some time.
Chief Minister Leads Tributes
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed deep sorrow over Sudhakar's demise, calling him a dedicated leader who worked tirelessly for the development of the state. "His contribution to Karnataka, especially Chitradurga district, will always be remembered," Siddaramaiah said in a statement.
Political Career and Legacy
Sudhakar, a three-time MLA from Chitradurga, held several key portfolios including health, energy, and district in-charge. He was known for his accessibility and commitment to public service. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot also condoled his death, praising his service to the people.
State Congress President D K Shivakumar described Sudhakar as a "true soldier of the party" who never hesitated to take up challenges. Several other ministers and opposition leaders paid floral tributes at his residence.
Funeral Arrangements
His body was taken to his hometown for the last rites, which will be performed with full state honors. The government declared a day of mourning in the state.
Sudhakar is survived by his wife, two daughters, and a son. His elder daughter is a doctor, and his younger daughter is pursuing higher education. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time.
