Kerala Chief Minister Condemns Centre's Silence on US-Israel Attack on Iran
In a fiery speech at Muthalakkulam ground on Monday night, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched a scathing critique of the Central government for its failure to condemn the recent US-Israel military strike on Iran. Addressing an anti-war rally organized by the Left Democratic Front (LDF), Vijayan asserted that the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his administration has deeply insulted the nation and its citizens.
Attack on Guest Ship IRIS Dena Highlights 'Shameful Submission'
Vijayan specifically highlighted the sinking of the Iranian naval vessel IRIS Dena, which had recently visited India to participate in a joint naval exercise. The Chief Minister emphasized that the ship was attacked while returning from this exercise, resulting in the deaths of several crew members. He questioned why the Centre did not issue a condemnation, stating, "They came here as our guests. Should not the government, at least, say that the attack on them was wrong? Such silence reflects nothing but shameful submission."
India's Anti-Imperialist Legacy Betrayed
The CM expressed concern that India, with its long history of opposing imperialism, now appears to be aligning with imperialist forces. He warned that attempts are being made to push the country into surrendering before American imperialism. Vijayan called for a strong response from all societal sections to influence the Centre to correct its stance.
Modi's Embrace of Netanyahu Sends Wrong Message
Referring to developments prior to the attack, Vijayan pointed to Prime Minister Modi's embrace of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu amid escalating tensions. He argued that this gesture conveyed to the world that India stands with Israel, even as large-scale killings occurred in Iran, including the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The CM added that the Centre's continued silence reflects its subservience to the United States.
Historical Ties with Iran and Global Opposition
Vijayan reminded the audience that Iran has supported India during difficult times, with relations spanning thousands of years. He condemned US actions as "jungle justice" driven by military and financial arrogance. The CM noted that global public opinion largely opposes the attacks, with even traditional Western allies like European countries and NATO members not openly supporting the move.
Underlying Motives: Control of Oil Resources
Vijayan also claimed that the real motive behind the attack is the US's vested interest in controlling a significant share of the world's oil resources. He urged India to rise against this stance and uphold its independent foreign policy legacy.
