Kolkata Traffic Plan for RVNL Bridge Work at Chingrighata

Kolkata traffic police have implemented a comprehensive traffic management plan to mitigate congestion during the RVNL bridge construction project at Chingrighata Crossing. The project aims to bridge a 366-metre gap and will be executed in two phases: from 8 pm on May 15 to 8 am on May 18, and from 8 pm on May 22 to 8 am on May 25.

First Phase: May 15-18

During the first phase, the western flank of EM Bypass at Chingrighata will remain closed. Vehicles traveling north from Science City towards Ultadanga will be diverted via the northbound slip road below Chingrighata Metro station. Motorists heading to Salt Lake, Sector V, and New Town can use the Chingrighata right-turn flyover. Traffic moving south towards Science City and Ruby will remain unaffected.

Police have installed signage along the stretch and prepared alternate routes through Tangra and Beleghata Canal Road. Vehicles may also be rerouted via Beleghata Main Road if needed. Signal timings at key crossings may be manually adjusted to ease traffic flow.

Second Phase: May 22-25

In the second phase, the eastern flank of Bypass and the Chingrighata right-turn flyover will be closed. Vehicles heading towards Ultadanga and the airport will use the diversion slip road. Traffic bound for Salt Lake and New Town will rejoin Bypass before taking a right turn near Paribesh Bhawan. Southbound traffic will temporarily shift to the western flank through median cut-outs.

Traffic police confirmed that trial runs were conducted before the elections to ensure smooth implementation. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and follow the signage.
