A massive landslide struck the Dhalli-Sanjauli bypass in Shimla on Thursday, bringing traffic to a standstill as a large volume of debris covered the road. Fortunately, no loss of life or injuries were reported.

Immediate Response and Clearance

Following the incident, teams from the police, district administration, and the Public Works Department (PWD) rushed to the site to clear the debris. Machinery was deployed, and the road was later cleared for one-way traffic. To minimize inconvenience, traffic was diverted to alternative routes.

Shimla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Singh stated, "The work of removing the debris is ongoing, and the police are continuously monitoring traffic movement. The remaining debris is being cleared, and we expect to restore two-way traffic soon."

Threat to Residential Building

Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Shimla (Rural), Manjeet Sharma, reported that the landslide occurred near a residential building, putting it under threat. "The building has been evacuated as a precaution. We are assessing the total number of affected buildings," Sharma added.

Travel Advisory

Authorities have urged commuters to avoid the Dhalli-Sanjauli bypass and plan their travel using alternative routes. They have also requested the public to follow instructions from police personnel deployed at the scene.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of hilly regions to landslides during the monsoon season. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as the clearance work progresses.
