A massive fire erupted at a tent house godown in the Patel Nagar locality near Karbala in Khajrana area of Indore on Monday morning. The blaze rapidly spread, engulfing five interconnected warehouses and causing property damage estimated in crores of rupees.
Details of the Incident
The affected warehouses, owned by Lokesh Soni, contained highly inflammable materials such as decorative clothing, plastics, and tent equipment. The dense residential surroundings caused panic among local residents as thick plumes of smoke were visible from several kilometers away.
Firefighting Efforts
Indore Municipal Corporation’s (IMC) fire department promptly dispatched four fire tenders to the scene. However, emergency teams faced logistical challenges navigating the narrow lanes of the densely populated neighborhood. To control the flames, authorities deployed advanced machinery, including earthmovers, to dismantle the metal tin roofing. Commissioner Kshitij Singhal stated, “IMC’s specialized firefighting robot was utilized to direct high-pressure water into areas inaccessible to manual crew.” The operation lasted approximately four hours, requiring more than 50 water tankers to fully extinguish the blaze.
Cause and Investigation
While the exact cause is yet to be determined, preliminary investigations suggest a short circuit may have triggered the fire. No casualties were reported. Authorities have initiated an investigation into compliance with local safety norms.
