Namma Metro Door Fault Strands Train at Cubbon Park, Delays 5 Services
Namma Metro Door Fault Strands Train at Cubbon Park

A technical glitch involving the doors of a Namma Metro train at Cubbon Park station caused significant disruption on Wednesday, forcing passengers to disembark and delaying at least five services heading towards Challaghatta. The incident occurred around 4:30 PM, leaving the affected train stranded for 17 minutes before it could be moved.

Commuters Deboarded as Doors Fail

According to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials, the train was preparing to depart from Cubbon Park when the doors failed to close properly. After repeated attempts, the operator decided to evacuate all passengers to ensure safety. Commuters were asked to wait for the next service, while the faulty train was taken out of service for inspection.

A passenger on board told DHNS, “The doors kept trying to close but wouldn’t latch. After about five minutes, the driver announced that everyone had to get off. It was chaotic but staff handled it well.”

Impact on Services

The snag caused a ripple effect, delaying five subsequent trains on the same line. Each service was held up by an average of 3-4 minutes as the stranded train blocked the track. BMRCL deployed additional staff to manage the crowd and restore normalcy. A spokesperson said, “We apologise for the inconvenience. The train was taken to the depot for repairs, and services resumed within 20 minutes.”

Recurring Technical Issues

This is not the first time Namma Metro has faced door-related glitches. In March 2026, a similar issue at Majestic station caused a 12-minute delay. BMRCL has attributed these problems to wear and tear in older trains, which are undergoing phased upgrades. The corporation has assured that all trains are inspected daily, but occasional failures occur due to the high frequency of operations.

Passenger Safety Measures

BMRCL emphasised that passenger safety remains the top priority. In case of door malfunctions, trains are immediately taken out of service, and affected passengers are guided to alternative trains. The corporation also urged commuters to report any unusual behaviour of doors to station staff. Regular maintenance schedules are being reviewed to minimise such incidents.
