In a major crackdown following a violent clash in Mathura district, nine people have been arrested. The altercation, which erupted over the organization of refreshment stalls for pilgrims along the 'parikrama' route, left six individuals injured. The incident occurred in Maholi village under the jurisdiction of the Highway police station.
Police Action and Suspensions
After the clash, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar took swift administrative action. SHO of Highway police station Shailendra Kumar was transferred to police lines, while sub-inspector Sandeep Kumar and constable Adarsh Kumar were suspended for negligence in handling the situation.
Details of the Clash
The confrontation, which took place on Thursday, stemmed from an old rivalry that had been temporarily resolved about six months ago. The two groups involved were led by Rajveer Singh alias Guddi and Chandrapal Singh, both from Maholi village. At around 11 am, Rajveer's associates arrived to distribute fruits to devotees, reigniting tensions. The situation escalated when Chandrapal's side set up a drinking water stall along the parikrama route, leading to stone-pelting and firing.
Senior police officers, including SSP Shlok Kumar, rushed to the village with heavy police deployment to bring the situation under control. The injured were immediately shifted to the district hospital for treatment.
Investigation and Arrests
SSP Kumar stated that the accused involved in the firing were being identified through CCTV footage and videos. An FIR was registered at the Highway police station against over 50 people under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections 109 (attempt to murder) and 191 (rioting), as well as the Arms Act. Nine individuals, including Rajveer Singh, were arrested. Police recovered two country-made .315 bore pistols, seven empty cartridges, eight live cartridges, and three wooden sticks from the scene.
SSP Kumar emphasized, 'Nine people are being questioned, and a case has been registered by the police. Strict action will be ensured against all the accused.'
