VHP Clarifies No Pressure on Champat Rai's Resignation
Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Alok Kumar has categorically stated that there was no pressure on Champat Rai to resign from his position as the general secretary of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The clarification comes amidst speculation that Rai stepped down due to differences over the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
Routine Organizational Change, Says Alok Kumar
In an exclusive interview with India TV, Alok Kumar emphasized that Champat Rai's resignation was a routine organizational change and not a result of any external pressure. "There was no pressure on Champat Rai to resign. This is a normal process of organizational restructuring," Kumar said. He added that Rai has been a dedicated worker and his contribution to the Ram temple movement is invaluable.
Background of the Resignation
Champat Rai, who served as the general secretary of the trust overseeing the construction of the Ram temple, resigned on June 27, 2026. The development raised eyebrows as it came at a crucial juncture when the temple construction is in full swing. However, VHP leaders have maintained that the change was planned and part of a broader organizational revamp.
Impact on Ram Temple Construction
Alok Kumar assured that the resignation would not affect the construction timeline of the Ram temple. "The construction work is progressing as per schedule, and the change in leadership will not cause any delay," he stated. The trust has already appointed a new general secretary to oversee the project.
Reactions from Other Quarters
The clarification from VHP comes amid rumors of internal strife within the trust. Some reports had suggested that Champat Rai was unhappy with certain decisions regarding the temple's design and construction. However, Alok Kumar dismissed these claims as baseless. "There is no truth to these rumors. Champat Rai is a seasoned leader who understands the importance of unity," he added.
Future Plans for the Trust
The Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust is expected to continue its work with renewed vigor. The new general secretary is likely to focus on expediting the construction process and ensuring that the temple is completed by the targeted date. The trust has also been engaging with various stakeholders to ensure smooth progress.
