Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged citizens to take all possible precautions as a severe heatwave gripped several parts of India. In a series of tweets, the Prime Minister advised people to stay hydrated, avoid exposure to the sun during peak hours, and follow guidelines issued by health authorities.
Heatwave Conditions Intensify
Parts of northern, central, and eastern India have been experiencing intense heatwave conditions over the past few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for several states, including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar, where temperatures have soared above 45 degrees Celsius in some areas.
PM Modi's Appeal
In his appeal, PM Modi emphasized the importance of taking precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. He said, "I urge all citizens to take all possible precautions as the heatwave grips several parts of the country. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun." The Prime Minister also directed authorities to ensure adequate medical facilities and water supply in affected regions.
Government Measures
The central government has been coordinating with state governments to mitigate the impact of the heatwave. The Ministry of Health has issued advisories to hospitals to be prepared for heatstroke cases. Additionally, the Ministry of Power has assured uninterrupted electricity supply for cooling appliances.
Public Response
Citizens have been urged to follow safety measures such as drinking plenty of water, wearing light clothing, and avoiding strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day. The IMD has predicted that the heatwave conditions are likely to persist for the next few days, with a slight relief expected after the weekend.
The Prime Minister's appeal comes as temperatures continue to rise, affecting daily life and posing health risks, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and children.
