Himachal Health Minister Dhani Ram Shandil on Friday informed representatives of the Blind Persons Association and the National Federation of the Blind that around 311 posts were vacant in various departments for visually impaired persons, and recruitment against 174 posts was in the final stages. The posts being filled include 41 in the Department of School Education, 13 in the Animal Husbandry Department, and four in the Health and Family Welfare Department.
Long-standing Demand
Visually impaired individuals have been demanding for the last two years that vacancies reserved for them in various departments be filled. The minister assured that the government is committed to addressing their concerns.
Increased Pension for Divyangjans
The minister also announced that the government has decided to increase the social security pension for Divyangjans with 100 per cent disability from Rs 1,700 to Rs 3,000 per month. This move is expected to provide financial relief to the disabled community.
The meeting was held to discuss the status of recruitment and other welfare measures for the visually impaired. The associations appreciated the government's efforts and urged for faster implementation of the remaining vacancies.
