SAD ex-MLA Shivalik joins Akali Dal-Waris Punjab De

In a major political development in Punjab, former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Darshan Singh Shivalik formally joined the Akali Dal-Waris Punjab De at a public event in Ludhiana. The event was attended by Tarsem Singh, father of incarcerated MP Amritpal Singh, and senior leader Manpreet Singh Ayali.

Shivalik's Reasons for Leaving SAD

Shivalik, who represented the Gill constituency, stated that his decision was driven by two core objectives: rescuing Punjab's youth from the grip of drugs and safeguarding the Panth (Sikh faith). He expressed disillusionment with SAD, alleging that his dedication was not valued and that several party leaders were working against the party's interests.

“I now place my trust in Tarsem Singh’s leadership to protect Sikh values and guide youth onto the right path,” Shivalik declared, marking a significant loss for SAD.

Internal Rifts in SAD Exposed

Manpreet Singh Ayali spoke openly about internal divisions within the Akali Dal. “The Akali Dal is still one. If Sukhbir Singh Badal abandons personal gains and selfish interests, we can reunite,” he said. Ayali stressed that only the Akali Dal 'Waris Punjab De' could provide the right direction and governance to the state.

Support for Akal Takht Hukamnama

During the event, the party expressed support for compliance with the 'hukamnama' issued by the Akal Takht regarding a controversial video. Ayali affirmed that the Akal Takht is the highest temporal authority of the Sikh community and its directives are supreme. He announced that he would appear before the Akal Takht on June 29 in accordance with its directions.

Panthic Government and Electoral Plans

Tarsem Singh declared that Punjab needs a purely Panthic government. He announced that Akali Dal-'Waris Punjab De' would contest the forthcoming Punjab Assembly elections under the leadership of MP Amritpal Singh, who is the party's Chief Ministerial candidate. Singh emphasized that people from every section of society are standing firmly with the party.

He also made it clear that the party will not enter into any alliance with any national party in the upcoming elections, asserting that only a regional party can effectively resolve Punjab’s issues.

Shivalik's Commitment

Shivalik thanked the party leadership for reposing faith in him and pledged to discharge any responsibility with dedication and sincerity. He noted that after trying different political parties, the people of Punjab now have high expectations from the Akali Dal-Waris Punjab De, and it would live up to those expectations.
