Sant Hirdaram Nagar Railway Station Gets Junction Status in Bhopal
Sant Hirdaram Nagar Railway Station Now Junction in Bhopal

Bhopal: Sant Hirdaram Nagar Railway Station has been officially accorded junction status, making it the second railway junction in the state capital after Bhopal Railway Station. This development comes under the Centre’s Amrit Bharat Scheme and marks the 21st railway junction in Madhya Pradesh.

Enhanced Passenger Amenities and Infrastructure Upgrades

Railway officials confirmed that work is underway to improve passenger amenities and increase the number of halts for long-distance trains at the station. A comprehensive redevelopment project at Sant Hirdaram Nagar is in progress and is expected to be completed within the next 12 months. Once upgraded, the station will match the standards and architectural aesthetics of Bhopal and Rani Kamalapati stations.

Current Operations and Challenges

At present, only a few trains from the Ratlam Division halt at Sant Hirdaram Nagar. Most trains continue to Bhopal Railway Station, where many undergo engine reversal before proceeding to the Bina–Katni line. This process causes delays and adds to congestion at Bhopal Railway Station, which handles over 150 passenger trains and 80 freight trains daily. The heavy traffic often forces passenger trains to wait at outer signals, leading to significant delays.

Streamlined Operations with New Status

The new junction status will allow trains to halt at Sant Hirdaram Nagar and run directly to the Bina line via Nishatpura, bypassing the time-consuming engine reversals at Bhopal. Officials stated that this will streamline operations, reduce congestion at Bhopal Railway Station, and improve overall punctuality.

Positive Reception from Commuters and Experts

Commuters and transport experts have welcomed the move, noting that additional halts and infrastructure upgrades at Sant Hirdaram Nagar should enhance convenience and punctuality for passengers. A revised timetable and new halts will be announced after the redevelopment work and operational clearances are completed, officials added.
