School Van Overturns in West Champaran, 10 Children Injured

Bettiah: At least 10 schoolchildren and a teacher were injured when a private school van overturned following a tyre burst in West Champaran district on Thursday. The accident took place near Bahuari Mor, close to Diwlia village, under the Ramnagar police station area.

Details of the Incident

According to local residents, the van was en route to school when one of its tyres suddenly burst. The driver, allegedly speeding, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn by the roadside. Witnesses claimed the van was overloaded, carrying more children than its permitted capacity, which may have worsened the impact of the accident.

Rescue and Medical Response

Locals rushed to rescue the injured victims and admitted them to Ramnagar Community Health Centre (CHC). Doctors there reported that several children suffered head injuries, while the condition of the teacher is critical.

After primary treatment, all were referred to GMCH Bettiah for advanced care, including CT scans.”

Police Investigation

Ramnagar SHO Dipak Kumar stated, “A police team reached the spot soon after receiving information. Prima facie, the vehicle went out of control and overturned. There are indications of overloading. The matter is under investigation.”

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of school transportation in the area. Authorities are expected to take strict action against the van operator if negligence is proven.
