Shivraj Singh Chouhan Unveils 'Brand Mama' on His Birthday with Major Welfare Push

On Thursday, Union Agriculture Minister and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan marked his 66th birthday by launching "Brand Mama," a comprehensive welfare initiative aimed at his Lok Sabha constituency of Vidisha. Affectionately known as "mama" across the state, Chouhan introduced key projects including the Mama Coaching Centre and Mama Mobile Hospital, among other measures designed to uplift the region.

Birthday Celebrations Turn into Public Service Announcement

Chouhan, who has long embraced the nickname "mama" since his days as chief minister beginning with the 2006 Ladli Laxmi Yojana, used the occasion to roll out programs targeting education and healthcare. The Mama Coaching Centre is set to provide coaching for exams such as banking, SSC, MPPSC, DRDO, and the Forest Service, initially launched in Vidisha, Raisen, and Bhairunda. Beneficiaries will be selected through entrance tests, with the center offering guidance from experienced teachers, modern study materials, and essential exam information.

"Shaping the future of youth is one of my priorities," Chouhan stated. "Mama Coaching Classes are being launched to provide economically disadvantaged but talented students with the opportunity to better prepare for competitive exams. With the right guidance and resources, even students from rural and small towns can succeed in major competitive exams. My aim is to ensure that no youth in the Vidisha region is deprived of their dreams due to lack of resources."

Mama Mobile Hospital to Enhance Rural Healthcare Access

In addition to educational support, Chouhan announced the Mama Mobile Hospital, an initiative aimed at improving healthcare access in remote areas. These mobile medical units will operate across all eight Assembly segments of the Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency, traveling to villages and remote habitations to provide:

  • Free medical consultation
  • Treatment services
  • Diagnostic facilities with qualified doctors

The initiative is to be supported through the MP Local Area Development Fund and public cooperation, ensuring sustainable operation and widespread impact.

Honoring Excellence with 'Prem-Sundar Pratibha Samman'

Paying tribute to his parents, Chouhan also launched the ‘Prem-Sundar Pratibha Samman’ to encourage meritorious students. Under this program, students securing outstanding results in Classes 10 and 12 across the eight Assembly segments of Vidisha will be felicitated. The awards include:

  1. Cash awards of Rs 51,000, Rs 31,000, and Rs 21,000 for toppers in each segment
  2. Special larger awards for the top three students across the entire constituency

This initiative aims to motivate academic excellence and recognize hard work among the youth.

Background of the 'Mama' Persona

Chouhan has long been called "mama," especially by women in Madhya Pradesh, since his tenure as chief minister. He has embraced this identity, introducing himself as "mama" to the masses during his 17 years in office. In a symbolic move, he even named his official residence in Bhopal "Mama Ka Ghar" a few years ago, further cementing his connection with the people.

The launch of "Brand Mama" represents a strategic extension of this persona into tangible welfare measures, focusing on education and healthcare to address key challenges in Vidisha and surrounding areas.
