Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has escalated his political confrontation with Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee by claiming that he has secured a detailed list of properties associated with Banerjee's company, Leaps and Bounds. Adhikari warned that these assets would be subjected to a thorough investigation.
Adhikari's Allegations
Addressing a public gathering in Diamond Harbour, Adhikari asserted that he possesses comprehensive information regarding multiple properties linked to the company. He declared, "Have got the list of properties of Abhishek Banerjee's Leaps and Bounds company. Will probe them." He further cautioned Banerjee, stating, "Will probe Abhishek Banerjee's assets."
This development marks a significant escalation in the ongoing political rivalry between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the TMC in West Bengal. Adhikari, a former TMC leader who switched allegiance to the BJP, has been a vocal critic of the TMC leadership.
TMC's Response
In response, TMC leader Tanmoy Ghosh on Sunday alleged political bias following the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against TMC General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee over alleged inflammatory remarks. Ghosh stated, "We have heard many provocative statements from BJP leaders. I believe that politics should be conducted with dignity. Such selective FIRs are unacceptable. This should apply to everyone; why only against Abhishek, just because the TMC lost the election? This is not acceptable at all."
The FIR was registered at the Bidhannagar North Cyber Crime Police Station concerning remarks made ahead of the elections. The case involves statements related to the playing of DJs and comments directed against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Political Context
The allegations and counter-allegations highlight the intense political climate in West Bengal, where the BJP and TMC are locked in a fierce battle for influence. Adhikari's claims about Banerjee's properties are likely to fuel further controversy, while the TMC continues to accuse the BJP of using investigative agencies to target political opponents.
As the situation unfolds, both parties are expected to engage in further exchanges, with the possibility of legal and political repercussions. The public remains divided, with supporters of both sides closely watching the developments.
