UP BJP Chief Hails OBC Commission as Historic Step

Lucknow: Welcoming the Uttar Pradesh cabinet's approval for the formation of an OBC Commission, state BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhary stated that the double-engine government has once again demonstrated that social justice is not merely a political slogan but a system implemented on the ground.

Historic Step for Transparent Reservation

Chaudhary described the commission's formation as a historic step aimed at providing a constitutionally and legally robust foundation for OBC reservation in panchayats. The commission will study the social and political representation of backward classes in rural bodies, ensuring that reservation quotas are determined based on accurate data, a transparent process, and constitutional provisions. He emphasized that this will grant backward sections strong representation at the grassroots of democracy, making their participation at the local level even more effective.

Modi Government's Efforts for Backward Classes

Chaudhary highlighted several historic steps taken by the Modi government in recent years to foster social and economic empowerment of backward classes. These include granting constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes and extending direct benefits to millions of poor and marginalized people through welfare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and Ujjwala Yojana. He asserted that under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, social justice has been elevated beyond vote-bank politics and linked with development and dignity.

Criticism of Samajwadi Party

Chaudhary accused the Samajwadi Party of engaging solely in vote-bank politics in the name of backward classes and Dalits. He remarked, "They only remember the 'PDA' whenever elections approach. The SP government failed to establish any concrete, transparent, or institutional framework for social justice when it was in office." Chaudhary asserted that the BJP firmly believes backward classes deserve not just rhetoric, but actual participation, opportunities, and the right to be involved in decision-making.
