UP's ODOP Crafts Take Center Stage During CM Yogi's Diplomatic Visits to Singapore and Japan
In a significant cultural and economic diplomacy move, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath utilized his recent official visits to Singapore and Japan to showcase the state's rich artisanal heritage. The chief minister carried and presented more than 500 exquisite works of traditional handicraft and art to dignitaries and children abroad, all bearing the distinctive stamp of Uttar Pradesh's flagship 'One District, One Product' (ODOP) scheme.
Mega Promotion of UP's Tradition and 'Vocal for Local' Vision
This initiative represents a mega exercise aimed at promoting Uttar Pradesh's deep-rooted traditions, vibrant culture, and the central government's 'vocal for local' vision on an international platform. According to an official involved in the process, the gifts served as powerful ambassadors of Indian craftsmanship, leaving foreign guests thoroughly impressed.
"The chief minister presented more than 300 mandala art pieces specifically to children during his engagements. The foreign guests were genuinely amazed and captivated by the intricate handmade creations. Particularly, the 'gulabi meenakari' artwork from Varanasi attracted special attention and admiration," the official stated.
Diverse Array of Traditional Handicrafts Presented
The carefully curated gift collection presented by CM Yogi Adityanath included a diverse array of traditional items sourced from various districts of Uttar Pradesh, each representing unique local specialties:
- Glass idols depicting Lord Ram, Lord Shiv, Radha-Krishna, and Buddha from Firozabad
- Brass idols of Lord Shiv and Buddha crafted in Moradabad
- Meenakari-crafted figures of Buddha, peacocks, and a detailed model of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple prepared with the distinctive 'gulabi meenakari' technique from Varanasi
- Wooden idols of Lord Shiv and Radha-Krishna from Saharanpur
Global Market Opportunities for UP Artisans
The official emphasized that this diplomatic effort is expected to yield substantial benefits for Uttar Pradesh's artisans and craftspeople. By showcasing these products on a global stage, the initiative aims to provide them with a new identity in the international market and unlock fresh export opportunities.
"The display of these exceptional ODOP products on such prestigious global platforms will significantly enhance their brand value and recognition worldwide. More importantly, it will provide crucial support to the livelihoods of lakhs of artisans across Uttar Pradesh, ensuring the preservation and prosperity of our traditional crafts," the official elaborated.
This strategic use of traditional handicrafts as diplomatic gifts not only strengthens cultural ties but also serves as a practical implementation of economic policies designed to empower local artisans and promote indigenous products internationally.
