VCK President Thol Thirumavalavan Accuses BJP of Undermining Parliamentary Democracy
In a sharp critique from Chennai, VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of deliberately obstructing the functioning of Parliament. Thirumavalavan alleged that the BJP's actions during last week's parliamentary session were a calculated move to disrupt proceedings and stifle democratic discourse.
Allegations of Silencing Opposition Voices
Addressing reporters at Chennai airport, Thirumavalavan highlighted a specific incident involving Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. He asserted that parliamentary tradition allows members to reference books and articles to substantiate their arguments during debates. However, he claimed that Gandhi was unjustly prevented from speaking in the ongoing session on the pretext that he was citing an unpublished book.
"This is a clear attempt to silence opposition voices and undermine democratic norms," Thirumavalavan stated, emphasizing that such actions reflect the BJP's unwillingness to engage in constructive parliamentary conduct.
Systematic Denial of Funds to Non-BJP States
Beyond parliamentary disruptions, Thirumavalavan leveled serious charges against the Union government regarding financial allocations. He alleged that the Centre has been deliberately denying funds to states not ruled by the BJP, following a systematic pattern of discrimination.
The VCK leader pointed to Tamil Nadu as a prime example, noting that funds for various development and ongoing projects have been withheld. He extended this accusation to other non-BJP-ruled states, including West Bengal, Kerala, and Karnataka, suggesting a politically motivated agenda.
Call for Parliamentary Restoration and Accountability
Thirumavalavan warned that if parliamentary proceedings resume this week, the issue of fund denial and procedural disruptions will be prominently raised. He stressed the urgency of restoring normalcy in Parliament to address these critical concerns and hold the government accountable.
"The BJP's actions are not just about one session; they represent a broader threat to federalism and democratic principles in India," he concluded, urging for immediate corrective measures to safeguard the integrity of parliamentary democracy.
