Patna: Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary issued a stern warning to criminals on Thursday, stating that the Bihar government would not allow them to operate freely. He emphasized that police are compelled to act when challenged by armed offenders. Ensuring the safety of Bihar's 13 crore people remains the government's top priority, and all security agencies are working in coordination towards that goal.
Women's Safety Initiatives
Highlighting the importance of women's safety, particularly for girl students, Samrat announced the procurement of 5,000 two-wheelers for 'police didis'. These personnel will be deployed around schools and colleges to strengthen security and boost confidence among students.
Address to Home Guard Jawans
Addressing 5,000 newly recruited home guard jawans at their passing-out parade at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, Samrat urged them to uphold discipline and public service. "The time has come to put into practice the discipline you have learned during training. Ensuring the safety and assistance of the public must be your primary duty," he said.
Samrat stated that Bihar Police and home guard personnel would play a key role in fulfilling Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's vision of a prosperous Bihar. Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, along with senior officials from the home department and Bihar Police, was present on the occasion.
Investment in Infrastructure
The state government is continuously investing in modern barracks, better residential facilities, and welfare measures for home guard personnel to enable them to perform their duties without concern, Samrat added.
Adapting to New Challenges
Referring to changing law-and-order challenges, Samrat said security personnel must remain alert and adapt to emerging threats by focusing on cybersecurity, technology-driven policing, and constant vigilance.
Commendable Contribution in Elections
"The contribution of home guard personnel in the successful and peaceful conduct of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the 2025 assembly elections has been commendable. In their honor and welfare, their daily allowance has been increased from Rs 774 to Rs 1,121," he announced.
Samrat also appreciated the efforts of DG (home guards and fire services) Shobha Ahotkar. Ahotkar said the recruits had completed their training within a record period of three months.
