Forest Guard Dies Fighting Fire in Uttarakhand

DEHRADUN: A forest guard posted at the Thadug beat of the Tons Forest Division (Purola) died after falling from a hill while attempting to extinguish a forest fire. The incident has sent a wave of grief through the Forest Department.

Incident Details

DP Baluni, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Tons Forest Division, stated that information regarding a fire in the forests of the Thadug beat was received on Wednesday evening. Forest Guard Sohan Singh Rawat, a resident of Manjiyali, arrived at the scene with his team to extinguish the blaze. The fire was brought under control after strenuous effort.

Search and Discovery

After the fire was extinguished, the other staff members returned to their respective homes, but Sohan Singh Rawat did not. A search was initiated when he failed to return home by late night. On Thursday morning, a Forest Department team conducted a search and discovered Sohan Singh's body in the forest area.
