A fire broke out in the kitchen of the Periyar Goundanur panchayat union primary school near Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district on Thursday. All students were quickly moved to safety, and the fire was extinguished without any injuries.

Incident Details

Police reported that the fire started after a cooking gas cylinder developed a leak, leading to flames inside the school kitchen. Fire and rescue services personnel arrived promptly, secured the leaking cylinder, and put out the fire, limiting damage to the kitchen area.

School Response

The school, which has 26 students enrolled in Classes I to V, was operating as usual when the incident occurred. A police officer from Uthangarai station stated, “Teachers responded quickly and moved all the children to a safe place before the fire could spread further.”

Parental Reactions

Parents expressed a mix of relief and concern following the incident. A father waiting anxiously outside the school said, “We are thankful that our children were saved in time. But the safety of school kitchens must be taken seriously.” Another mother added, “The government should ensure proper maintenance of cylinders and kitchens. We cannot risk children’s lives.”

Authorities have assured that an investigation into the cause of the gas leak will be conducted to prevent future incidents.
