Bhubaneswar: Retired IAS officer Pradeep Kumar Jena has resigned as the chairperson of the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC). The state government accepted his resignation, as confirmed by an energy department notification issued on Monday.
Background of the Resignation
Jena, a former chief secretary of Odisha, had assumed the role of OERC chairman on April 8, 2025. He cited "personal reasons" for stepping down from the position. At 62 years of age, he was eligible to continue in the post for up to three more years, as the tenure is either five years or until the age of 65, whichever comes earlier.
Government's Next Steps
Government sources indicated that another retired bureaucrat will be appointed to the position shortly. Meanwhile, Jena may be reassigned to a new advisory role within the state government.
This development comes as part of routine administrative changes in the state's regulatory framework.
