Shimla DC administers anti-drug oath to students and staff

Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap administered an anti-drug oath to students, coaches, and staff members during the closing ceremony of the 34th annual state-level State Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Sports Competition (Women) held at ITI, Chaura Maidan on Sunday. He called for collective efforts to combat rising drug abuse among youth.

Oath Against Drug Abuse

Kashyap administered the oath to all players, students, coaches, and staff members, urging them to stay away from drugs and intoxicants. He emphasized that drugs, particularly chitta (heroin), have become one of the biggest threats to society, especially the youth. “Drug abuse not only affects the future of an individual but also has an adverse effect on the lives of their family members, as well as society,” said the DC.

Call for Collective Action

Kashyap urged the youth to channel their energy into education, sports, innovation, and positive activities. He also appealed to students to support their drug-addicted friends in overcoming addiction rather than isolating them from society. “Only through the joint efforts of society and the administration can a serious social evil like drug addiction be effectively curbed,” he added.

Sports and Youth Development

Speaking about the competition, Kashyap highlighted the role of sports in developing discipline, leadership skills, self-confidence, team spirit, and decision-making abilities. “Every player who participates in sports competitions is a winner in their own right, as they develop self-confidence and a fighting spirit,” he said. He congratulated the organisers, trainers, judges, and participants for successfully organising the event, noting that such competitions provide opportunities for youth to showcase talent and preserve cultural heritage.

Winners of the Competition

Solan district emerged as the overall winner in the sports competition for its excellent and consistent performance, while Shimla district won the overall trophy for its outstanding performance in cultural competitions.
