Bhoa MLA and Cabinet Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak conducted his third 'Lok-Milni' in the last two days on June 25, 2026, in Pathankot district, aiming to address public grievances. The outreach events were held in Begowal, Taragarh, Gajju Jagir, Manwal, Muthi, and Janial villages.
Background of Lok-Milni Initiative
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership has directed ministers, MLAs, and halqa in-charges to remain in their respective assembly segments for the next two months and organize public outreach programs, known as 'Lok-Milnis', with support from the district administration. This directive aims to enhance direct engagement with constituents.
Comparison with Sangat-Darshan
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders criticized the move, claiming that AAP is merely copying the 'Sangat-Darshan' programs initiated by former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. However, Kataruchak defended the initiative, stating that 'Lok-Milnis' are a novel concept that effectively bridges the communication gap between the public and the government, unlike the earlier format.
Key Grievances and Promises
During the interactions, residents raised several issues, including delays in the implementation of the 'Mukh Mantri Mawan Dhian Satikar Yojna' scheme. Under this scheme, the government provides Rs 1,000 per month to women from the general category and Rs 1,500 to Scheduled Caste women. Kataruchak assured the attendees that he would take up the matter with the state government to expedite the process.
One of the main problems raised by residents was the delay on the part of the government in implementing the scheme. Kataruchak assured residents that he will take up the issue with the state government.
Healthcare Scheme Success
The minister highlighted the popularity of the 'Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna', a cashless insurance scheme providing coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh per family. He emphasized that all pre-existing ailments are covered from day one with no waiting periods. The scheme covers all costs for admission, consultations, diagnostic tests, ICU care, medicines, and pre- and post-hospitalization expenses.
Kataruchak stated, "All pre-existing ailments are fully covered from day one with no waiting periods. All costs for admission, consultations, diagnostic tests, ICU care, medicines and pre- and post-hospitalisation are covered under the scheme."
Impact and Future Plans
The Lok-Milni events are part of AAP's strategy to strengthen grassroots connections and resolve long-pending administrative issues, including land disputes. Kataruchak noted that such events allow residents to voice their concerns and facilitate dispute resolution, particularly regarding agricultural land.
