Aditya Sahu Officially Assumes Role as Jharkhand BJP President
Ranchi witnessed a significant political development on Wednesday as Aditya Sahu was formally appointed the new president of the Jharkhand BJP. The announcement came during a ceremony at a city banquet hall, marking a fresh chapter for the state unit of the party.
Election Process and Announcement
Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, serving as the state election officer, declared Sahu's name to the gathering. The event saw the presence of outgoing state president Babulal Marandi and numerous senior party workers. The electoral process for this position began on January 12, with Sahu emerging as the sole candidate to file nomination papers for the post.
Alongside this appointment, the party also named 21 members to its national council. This move precedes the anticipated selection of a new BJP national president later this week.
Sahu's Background and Immediate Reactions
Aditya Sahu, a 63-year-old Rajya Sabha MP, represents the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community. He expressed deep gratitude upon taking over the reins. "I am thrilled by the love and affection which the party has bestowed on me," Sahu stated. He emphasized his origins, noting he rose from an ordinary party worker and pledged continued support for grassroots and booth-level workers to fortify the party.
Jual Oram praised Sahu's dedication, highlighting his unique identity built through hard work. "Under his leadership, we are sure that the party will get new strength," Oram remarked, expressing confidence in forming a strong BJP-NDA government in Jharkhand. Babulal Marandi also commended Sahu's elevation, acknowledging his commendable sensitivity towards public problems.
Vision and Challenges Ahead
Sahu outlined his plans to collaborate closely with senior party workers, including former chief ministers of the state, to ensure collective progress for the party's benefit. He set a clear mission: "Our mission now is to make BJP govt in next assembly polls."
He acknowledged the current period as one of struggles and challenges for BJP workers in Jharkhand. "We will take on every challenge head on," Sahu asserted. He framed the BJP's agenda around protecting Jharkhand's identity and culture, alleging that opponents' lies and deceit previously prevented the party from forming a government, though he claimed people's trust remains with the BJP.
Sahu also raised concerns about infiltration, stating, "The state has become a sanctuary for infiltrators. Infiltrators have open protection from the govt." This comment underscores the political tensions and issues he aims to address in his new role.
As Aditya Sahu steps into this leadership position, all eyes will be on how he mobilizes the party base and navigates the political landscape in Jharkhand, with the next assembly elections serving as a key milestone.
