Chennai: Launching a scathing attack on the 38-day-old TVK government, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palanisami said the governor’s address lacked substance. He accused the government of failing on all fronts, particularly law and order and agrarian welfare. He also ruled out the political entry of his son Mithun.
Palanisami told reporters after the governor’s address on Thursday that the speech lacked any new vision or schemes. ”This was the governor’s first address and we expected it to contain several new schemes and initiatives. But there was nothing new in it,” he said. He termed the governor’s address as a `hollow dream.’
Palanisami said law and order has `completely collapsed,’ but there were no measures to address the issue. “In just 38 days of TVK rule, the state has witnessed 130 murders and 276 recorded crimes against women, including 150 Pocso cases,” he said. “The much-touted Singappen Special Task Force for women’s safety now ironically needs another security force to protect itself,” he added.
These chain of events exposed TVK government’s incompetence, he charged.
Palanisami said the TVK government had betrayed the farming community. He said the government failed to negotiate with the Congress-led Karnataka government and secure Cauvery water, which has delayed the opening of the Mettur dam for kuruvai cultivation on June 12. Turning his ire toward the power sector, the AIADMK chief highlighted frequent, unannounced power outages plaguing Chennai and other districts. “They are blaming ‘fuse carrier thefts’ for the blackouts, much like the previous DMK regime blamed squirrels. But it is administrative mismanagement,” he said.
Dismissing reports about his son Mithun’s political entry as rumours, Palanisami said Mithun neither has political ambitions nor holds any party posts. “My son will not enter politics. It is a rumour,” he said, seeking to put an end to the charges levelled by rebel AIADMK MLA C Ve Shanmugam.
