Andhra Pradesh Government Unveils First-Ever MLA Constituency Performance Rankings

In a significant move towards performance-based governance, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu officially released the inaugural constituency rankings for Andhra Pradesh on Monday. This comprehensive assessment evaluates the performance of Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) across various key indicators, establishing a transparent grading system for public accountability.

Detailed Breakdown of Ranking Categories and Results

The detailed report, presented during a high-level meeting with ministers and principal secretaries, revealed a predominantly positive performance landscape. According to the official data, 21 constituencies achieved the prestigious A+ ranking, demonstrating excellence in governance and development metrics. A substantial majority of 153 constituencies secured A category status, reflecting good overall performance. Notably, only a single constituency received a B grade, indicating moderate performance levels.

Top Performers and Standout Constituencies

Two constituencies from Vijayawada emerged as clear leaders in the rankings. Vijayawada West, represented by BJP MLA Sujana Chowdary, achieved the highest score of 93 out of 100 points, securing the top position statewide. Meanwhile, Vijayawada East, under the representation of Gadde Rammohan, claimed an impressive fourth place in the overall standings.

Sharing the second position with identical scores of 92 points were Gajuwaka constituency in Visakhapatnam, represented by TDP state president Palla Srinivasa Rao, and Kakinada city constituency, represented by Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao. The elite A+ category also included several other high-performing constituencies scoring 91 points, such as Hindupur, Penukonda, Kadiri, Visakhapatnam West, Madugula, Pithapuram, Ramachandrapuram, Jaggampeta, and Gopalapuram (SC).

Notable Absences and Bottom Performers

Interestingly, while Pawan Kalyan's Pithapuram constituency secured a place among the top ten performers, two high-profile constituencies did not make the A+ category list. Kuppam, represented by Chief Minister Naidu himself, and Mangalagiri, represented by IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, were absent from the highest ranking tier.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, five constituencies were identified as bottom performers with scores below 80 points. Kondapi (SC) recorded a score of 79, followed by Kandukur and Kavali with 78 points each, Ongole with 77 points, and Guntur West with the lowest score of 73. While Kondapi, Kandukur, Kavali, and Ongole were graded 'A', Guntur West received the sole 'B' grade in the entire assessment.

Understanding the Performance Grading System

The government's comprehensive grading system classifies constituency performance into four distinct categories based on numerical scores. Excellent (A+) status is awarded to constituencies scoring above 90 points. Good (A) category includes those with scores between 75 and 89 points. Moderate (B) classification applies to scores ranging from 50 to 74 points, while Poor (C) grade is designated for scores below 50 points.

This pioneering initiative represents a significant step toward data-driven governance and performance transparency in Andhra Pradesh. The rankings provide valuable insights into constituency-level development and administrative efficiency while establishing clear benchmarks for future improvement across the state's political landscape.
