Avalanche Blocks Strategic Road in Jammu and Kashmir, Swiftly Cleared by BRO

A minor avalanche struck the Guldanda road on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot inter-state highway in Jammu and Kashmir, causing temporary disruption and stranding several vehicles. The incident occurred on Sunday evening, but thanks to the prompt response from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), the debris was cleared, and traffic movement was restored without any reported injuries.

Details of the Avalanche Incident

Executive Magistrate of Bhaderwah, Kamal Preet Singh, confirmed that around 40 vehicles were stuck after the avalanche hit the strategic highway. He stated, "Today, there was a small avalanche on our Guldanda road, due to which some of our people, around 40 vehicles, got stuck. So, the BRO came here and opened the road, making it passable, so the people who were stranded could leave." He emphasized that there was no loss of life or property, attributing the swift resolution to the effective efforts of the BRO and support from local authorities, including police and ambulances.

Response and Restoration Efforts

The Border Roads Organisation acted quickly to clear the debris, ensuring the road became passable again. As a precautionary measure, emergency services and civil society members were deployed to the site to assist and reassure stranded individuals. Singh added, "They helped each other and told the people not to panic, saying they would fix it soon and make the road passable for them." The road did not sustain significant damage, and the tourist spot remains open, with only a small patch affected.
